MY PRESSURE TO JOIN A PREJUDICE
1. I have entered into the legal profession for the sole reason that it requires you to render justice for someone affected by injustice. Obviously it was inspired from Avenger movies. It requires a basic quality that, your mind must free from any biases or prejudices to see a clear picture, of the degree of injustice, committed to the person sitting in front of you. I thought that, I have guarded myself from any prejudices throughout my life, hence I will be the best person to choose legal profession as it would be the primary quality to be a part of the judicial system.
2. After I have entered into the bar, the First thing I was able to identify, is that, you would be identified with the chambers you belong. You will be seen as a person with both the independent qualities of you and characters of the chambers you choose. As days passed, I came to understand that this lawyer is community, which is indispensible part of the justice delivery system, visibly or invisibly tied up in different groups.
3. These groups, mostly tied up with an visible emotional thread. As the members of the group may belong to a single community, single area of practice, belong to single region of the state, belong to single political party, the particular Guru they follow and the particular unit they follow. Some intelligent members of the bar choose to be part of, at least, 3 or more such groups to sneak out most benefits.
4. These groups acts similar to share markets. Its value gets high and gets low depending upon, the participation of a number of powerful persons in these groups, and the prevailing public sympathy for an issue at the particular point of time.
5. If you are independent and faced with any of those groups in opposite in any issue, the result is obvious, you must loose. As the count of loosing on issues mounts up, it builds a pressure to rethink your idea to act independent and remain unbiased to render justice. This pressure pushes you against the wall, and pushes you to a point, to even doubt your ability to render justice for the desired, as you loosing to groups.
6. The next problem appears, when you are thinking of joining a group, to at least safeguard your party’s interest, only to identify yourself as a part of a particular group. The issue of participating in a group is that, you have to force yourself to accept the prejudices and biases of the said group. It means that, if some issue is occurs to you, as injustice, but it is favorable to the group, you have to bear it, for the larger interest of the group. If you happens to join a community group, you must accept the prejudice, that you are an honorable being because you born so. If you happens to join the other community group, you must accept the prejudice that you are ever suppressed, because the society thinks, you born so. If you join a group of political party, you must accept the prejudices of the leaders of it.
7. Thus by participating in groups, your sense of justice starts to fade, little by little. When it fades in most part, you will be desired to run towards selfish reasons, including money, welfare of your individual family and other desires. As your hard work must give some returns to you, if not satisfaction.
8. Further it, makes you to loose your desire for justice, on the other hand, non-participation in a group, makes you to loose your ability to render justice. Every other individual independent mind, who were all in their middle stages of practices or their fresh stage of practices are faced with this same issue. I hope that I can see in future an evolved legal society, where the individual free thinker is not suppressed by the larger group of prejudiced minds or I hope I can find in future, any group, which does not pressurize you to accept their prejudices and has their only moto to render justice to the needy, poor or rich, man or woman, human or animal, living or dead. Let’s hopes be alive.
