Madurai Bench of Madras HC grants anticipatory bail to 2 Junior Vikatan journalists against whom cases were slapped with 2 cases by Kanniyakumari police under non-bailable sections for conducting interview in a Lankan Tamil refugee camp.

[1/6, 15:43] Sekarreporter: Madurai Bench of Madras HC grants anticipatory bail to 2 Junior Vikatan journalists against whom cases were slapped with 2 cases by Kanniyakumari police under non-bailable sections for conducting interview in a Lankan Tamil refugee camp.
[1/6, 15:43] Sekarreporter: During the course of arguments for Vikatan scribes’ anticipatory bail, Vikatan’s counsel argued that the registration of cases is a straight assault on freedom of press. Justice G.R.Swaminathan, who accepted this argument, orally observed, “this is a fit case for quashing”.

Apart from getting the two FIRs quashed, Vikatan management should sue the TN police under 211 IPC for malicious prosecution.
