The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests-cum-Chief Wildlife Warden has filed a writ appeal before the #MadrasHighCourt against a single judge’s order directing the forest department to return three female elephants Sandhya (50), Indu (30) & Jayanti (14) to the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. The appeal has been listed for hearing before the first Division Bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan tomorrow (January 23, 2026). Justice V. Lakshminarayanan had directed the forest department to return the elephants on January 7, 2026 while disposing of a writ petition filed by the Mutt seeking custody of all three animals. @THChennai
