In terms of the Order dated 18.11.2025 passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, in W.P. (C) No. 1319/2023, tiled ‘M. Vardhan v. Union of India and Anr.’, a Committee comprising Justice Rajiv Shakdher, former Chief Justice, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. E. Om Prakash, Senior Advocate and Dr. Amit George, Advocate [‘Committee’], has been constituted for conducting elections to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry [‘BCTNP’] and Bar Council of Kerala.

The Committee convened a preliminary meeting in the premises of the BCTNP, Chennai on 18.01.2026 and held extensive deliberations concerning the conduct of elections for BCTNP.

The Committee has taken an in-principle decision that necessary instructions regarding the conduct of the elections shall be issued by it from time to time as and when found necessary and therefore other individuals or bodies should refrain from issuing and / or publishing statements lest they cause confusion. All instructions and notifications issued by the Committee shall be uploaded on the website of the Hon’ble High Court of Madras and the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry to ensure accessibility by stakeholders.
