The petitioner sought to take immediate steps to prevent corrupt activities at Tasmac outlets by strictly prohibiting the sale of liquor above MRP, providing bill and receipt to the customers and by prohibiting the sale of fake liquor.

The state informed the court that pursuant to the previous direction, a circular has been issued to the district-level officers in this regard. Taking cognizance of the submissions, a division bench of justices M M Sundresh and S Ananthi said that the officers should conduct periodical inspections and in the event of non-compliance of the circular, necessary action should be taken. tnn

MADURAI: A representation has been made to the Tamil Nadu health secretary J Radhakrishnan to consider administering Covid-19 vaccine for the frontline workers in NGOs on a priority basis.
The appeal was made by Empower India centre for consumer and environment education, research and advocacy.
“It is based on an office memorandum from Niti Aayog to the secretary of the union ministry of health and family welfare dated March 11,” executive director of the organisation A Shankar said.
Stressing on the importance of vaccinating them, the memorandum requested the direct concerned to prioritise vaccinating NGO frontline workers as early as possible.

At present only government frontline workers, persons aged above 60 years and those above 45 years with co morbidities were allowed to get the vaccination, apart from officials on election duty.
Shankar said that NGO frontline workers include those helping persons in distress, aged, children and ill persons such as those infected by deadly viruses such as HIV.
“NGO frontline workers don’t do a desk job but are on the field helping those in need. The request to vaccinate them on priority is not only to protect them and their dependents from Covid-19 but also the multitude they help or meet on a daily basis. So we requested the TN heath secretary to vaccinate them on priority,” he added.
