Justice P.T. Asha passed the order after hearing concerns raised by N. Selvaraj, secretary of the Coimbatore Labour Union (All India Trade Union Congress – AITUC). Mr. Selvaraj told The Hindu that most workers, relocated to housing units in Malumichampatti, Keeranatham, and Vellalore— approximately 10 km from the city— are currently adhering to the revised reporting time but face challenges due to the lack of early morning public transport. Workers are compelled to rely on costlier autorickshaw services, which also affects their ability to prepare their children for school.

The court directed issuance of notices to the Corporation Commissioner, the Assistant Commissioner of the Labour Welfare Department, and the private contractor engaged by the Corporation. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on August 11.
