The Madras High Court on Tuesday heard an anticipatory bail petition filed by Uma Shankar, who apprehended arrest in connection with the alleged leak of the unreleased film Jananayagan produced by KVN Productions.

The matter came up before Justice P. Kumarappan. Advocate Vijayan Subramanian appeared on behalf of KVN Productions as an intervener and strongly opposed the grant of anticipatory bail to the petitioner.

During the hearing, Advocate Vijayan Subramanian argued that Jananayagan, starring Vijay, has been produced at an estimated budget of ₹450 crores and carries enormous theatrical, satellite and digital commercial value. It was argued that the petitioner is one of the principal accused in the piracy chain and had allegedly copied the entire film onto a hard drive and circulated the same through multiple social media and messaging platforms including X, Instagram, WhatsApp and Telegram.

Counsel further submitted that the leak of an unreleased high-value cinematograph film amounts to a serious act of copyright piracy requiring effective investigation.
Considering the gravity of the allegations, the Court declined to grant anticipatory bail at this stage and adjourned the matter to 30.04.2026 for further hearing.
