- Senior advt wilson /Large-scale resignations of MLAs from one party within a few days of election results, followed by their immediate switch of sides for alleged personal gain, betray voters and their mandate. These are clear signs of the abuse of parliamentary democracy and raise suspicions of corruption and ongoing horse-trading among the wider public. The 7-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that MPs and MLAs do not enjoy immunity from criminal prosecution for offences of bribery. The Hon’ble governor @lokbhavan_tn must seriously note political developments from post-poll events until now and consider directing an impartial, independent vigilance enquiry into alleged accusations of horse-trading to dispel public doubts. The Parliament should consider amending the law to mandate that any MP or MLA who resigns from their seat should be barred from contesting the resulting by-election for a specified cooling-off period, thereby reducing the incentive to vacate seats for shifting alliances.
