TN Public Exams 2020 Postponement Plea in High Court: Madras High Court will hear today a plea that seeks postponement of TN SSLC Exam 2020 for 10th Class students and HSE / Plus Two Exams for 12th Class Students owing to the grave condition in the state due to COVID-19. An independent lawyer filed a PIL in the Madras High Court seeking legal relief against holding of the TN Board Exams in the month of June 2020. Earlier in the week, Tamil Nadu Education Minister had announced that the pending board exams for SSLC And HSE students will be held from 1st to 12th June 2020.
PIL Seeks Further Postponement
According to the Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate S Stalinraja, the plea seeks further postponement of the TN Public Exam 2020 further keeping in mind the serious spread of Coronavirus in the state. The advocate in the PIL appeals to the court to consider the situation order postponement of the exams, taking into account the safety of the students. Holding exams at such a critical juncture would put a lot of students at the risk of exposure to Coronavirus. Approximately 10 lakh students are due to appear for SSLC and HSE Exams of Tamil Nadu Board; with such large number of students, it would be very difficult for the exam organizers to ensure proper social distancing among the students during the examination.
Issue of Students from Containment Zones Attending Exams
Another issue that the PIL highlights is regarding the participation of the students from containment zones / red zones, who are to appear for SSLC and HSE Exams. With complete lockdown measures enforced in such areas, people are not allowed to venture out of their homes to curb the spread of coronavirus. Such students who reside in areas that are identified as containment zones, would find it difficult to appear for the examination in June 2020.
Tamil Nadu Board exams for 10th 11th 12th would be conducted from June 1 to June 12. The Class 11 Chemistry paper which was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID19 as well the remaining Class 12 papers would be conducted.

[5/15, 16:58] Munusamy Sgp Admk: The learned Judges posed several questions regarding the locus standi, merits, public spirit of the petition and it is filed against the guidelines issued by the Supreme court and Madras High court regarding PIL. When the Judges about to pass orders dismissing with costs, the petitioner sought permission to withdraw so as to avoid costs. Accordingly dismissed with a direction to the effect that no similar petition should be filed.
Most importantly, the learned judges wanted to refer such petitions to bar council for disciplinary proceedings since now-a- days numerous frivolous PILs are being filed for publicity by the advocates.
