#MadrasHighCourt has stayed all further proceedings in a case related to collection of hundreds of sovereigns of gold from the devotees of the Ekambaranathar Temple in Kancheepuram district for making two Panchaloha idols in 2016 but not using even drop of the yellow metal to make those Urchava Murtis of Lord Somaskandar and Goddess Ealavarkuzhali Amman. Justice M. Nirmal Kumar granted the interim stay till April 17, 2026 following a petition filed by the third accused Muthiah Stapathy to quash the charge sheet filed against him. Former Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Commissioner M. Veera Shanmuga Moni, arrayed as the first accused, too had filed a similar quash petition. The Siva Kanchi police had filed the charge sheet against the former HR&CE Commissioner, Additional Commissioner M. Kavitha, the temple sculptor and six Stanikars for allegedly entering into a criminal conspiracy to swindle the gold. @THChennai
