[14/11, 08:09] Sekarreporter: Madras High Court grants relief to student who was not able to pay fees on the online portal within the last date for joining allotted MBBS seat due to technical issues. The student’s mother is a 10th pass homemaker and father is a painter working in Saudi. Her fees was arranged by the mother by pledging borrowed jewels. The student was not able to make payment on the last date of 08.11.2025 because it fell on a bank holiday (2nd Saturday) and option to pay from Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank was not provided in the payment portal of the Selection Committee which is the authority that conducts MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu. Despite several attempts, the Selection Committee did not permit her to pay fees on the following working day and closed the payment portal.
The Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh allowed the writ petition by directing the respondents to permit the student to join the course. She is permitted to pay the fee by 14.11.2025. The Hon’ble Judge directed the Selection Committee to keep the portal open to enable her to make the payment.
Ms. Abisha Isaac
assisted by Ms. Mary Sowmi for Isaac Chambers appeared for the petitioner student
