  Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy also observed that persons who exploit the elephants should be dealt with as mercilessly as they treat the animals. The court made the remarks on a PIL moved by activist Rangarajan Narasimhan against poor and inhumane treatment of elephants owned by Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple and separating them from their mahouts.

  Full order IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT MADRAS DATED : 05.07.2021 CORAM THE HONOURABLE MR.JUSTICE M.GOVINDARAJ ADVOCATE: M.Ravi & Priya Ravi, argued in a case relating to promotion to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Prison and the Order of Hon’ble Mr.Justice M.Govindaraj : The Petitioner to make a representation setting out all the grounds with substantiating materials as well as judicial precedents to the 1st respondent within a period of three weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. On such representation, the respondents are directed to consider the same and after forming appropriate opinion as to the objects and reasons of the classifications particularly between the General Category and Women Category, pass a reasoned appropriate order within a period of eight weeks thereafter.
