Hon’ble Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, Hon’ble High Court at Madras grants interim relief to Person with Disabilities to attend November, 2025 semester exam at Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University. Abudu Kumar Rajaratnam, Senior Advocate for Rajagopal Vasudevan, Legal Aid Counsel for petitioner
[30/10, 15:49] Sekarreporter: A Writ Petition was moved today as a lunch motion matter before the Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, High Court of Judicature at Madras.
The petitioner is a person certified to have a 40% disability due to mental illness (Schizophrenia) and
is presently pursuing the second year of the L.L.B. (Hons.) course at the School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.
The grievance pertains to the denial of exemption from payment of tuition and special fees, despite the University’s Prospectus and Allotment Letter specifically providing that candidates with disabilities are exempted from such payments. The University rejected the petitioner’s request on the ground that the exemption could not be extended midway through the course.
Challenging the said rejection, the petitioner approached this Hon’ble Court in W.P. No. 41497 of 2025, seeking appropriate reliefs, including an interim direction to the respondents to permit the petitioner to attend the November 2025 Odd Semester Examinations without insisting on payment of the said fees.
Upon hearing the matter, the Hon’ble Court has been pleased to grant interim relief in favour of the petitioner. The copy of the order will be shared upon its upload in the official High Court portal
