In a ceremony rich with history and symbolism, Hon’ble Justice M. S. Ramesh of the Madras High Court became the first Indian to be conferred the Sir Thomas Strange Legacy of Justice Award 2025 and one of only 12 leaders worldwide to receive the distinguished Euro Star Medal of Honour 2025 at the 10th Annual IAE & Euro Star Global Awards, held at The Gherkin, London.
The distinguished gathering — comprising jurists, diplomats, business leaders and public servants — rose in a standing ovation as Justice Ramesh accepted the award, recognising his contributions to justice, human rights and judicial integrity.
The honour was jointly presented by:
• Lady Lansdowne, Member of the House of Lords & Queen’s Consort
• Lord Jonathan Marland of Odstock, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council;
• Lord Rami Ranger of Mayfair, Member of the House of Lords and business leader; and
• Mr John Garbutt JP, High Sheriff of Greater London, His Majesty the King’s judicial representative for law and order.
Also in attendance was Ms Barbara Mills KC, Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales.
The event was hosted under the leadership of the President of the IAE & Euro Star Awards, marking a decade of international recognition for excellence and leadership.

About Sir Thomas Strange
Sir Thomas Andrew Lumisden Strange (1756–1841) served as the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Madras (1798–1817).
A visionary reformer, he introduced principles of fairness and equality before the law while harmonising English jurisprudence with Indian customary law.
His pioneering work laid the foundations of India’s modern judiciary and remains a guiding light for generations of jurists.

The Sir Thomas Strange Legacy of Justice Award honours jurists who embody the timeless values of courage, fairness, and humanity.

From this year forward, the honour will be bestowed annually on one senior Indian judge whose career reflects the spirit of Sir Thomas Strange.
