The contempt petitions filed by Loyola College (Autonomous), Chennai, Stella Maris College (Autonomous), Chennai, Women’s Christian College (Autonomous), Chennai and Madras Christian College (Autonomous), Chennai came up for hearing before the Mr. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh in Hon’ble High Court of Madras and the Hon’ble Judge after hearing the counsel for the parties posted the cases for reporting compliance by 09.01.2026.
In the contempt petitions, the colleges have stated that the court holding that UGC Regulations 2018 and adoption of the same by the TN State Government through GO. 5 (Higher Education – GO. 5) in relation to composition of selection committee with members nominated by the Vice Chancellor of the University for appointment of Principals and Assistant Professors are not applicable to minority institutions and directing the University and the Government to approve the appointments made by the institutions were not complied by the University and the Government.
It is understood that hundreds of appointments made by the colleges in State have not been approved by the universities and the Government.
