BREAKING #MadrasHighCourt Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan order notice to Election Commission of India on a public interest litigation petition filed by Arjun Sampath of Indu Makkal Sakthi Katchi seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India that only Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists must be allowed to contest in the 44 Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies reserved for the Scheduled Castes. The judges direct ECI counsel Niranjan Rajagopal to take instructions by April 9, 2026. Justice Murugan asks how the Returning Officer will be able to verify the genuineness of community certificates submitted by the candidates especially when a candidate may have also got reconverted.
