HC Orders Closure Of Exhibition In
Madras high court has ordered the closure of a private exhibition organised in Madurai after taking into account that some conditions imposed by the fire and rescue services department in the no objection certificate (NOC) were not followed by the organisers.
A division bench of Justice Anita Sumanth and Justice C Kumarappan passed the order while hearing a public interest litigation filed by Sabeena Banu of Madurai.
The petitioner stated that a private individual obtained permission to conduct the ‘Guna Cave’ exhibition at Iyer Bungalow in Madurai. When she went to the exhibition, she noticed several violations with regard to public safety and hygiene. She stated that the restrooms were maintained poorly, and the food items were prepared in an unhygienic manner. Due to a lack of adequate parking space, there was traffic congestion. She claimed that there was insufficient fire safety equipment and emergency exits were either blocked or inadequate. She stated that she submitted a representation to the authorities in this regard, however, the same was not considered. Hence, she moved the court seeking relief.
During the previous hearing, the court directed the Madurai police and the fire and rescue services department to inspect the exhibition and submit a report. Pursuant to the order, the authorities filed a report before the court stating that the organisers had not complied with certain conditions in the NOC.
