Local body elections recounting batch cases before Hon’ble Mr. Justice Audikesavalu : Today about 40 cases came up before the Madras High Court complaining that the Retuning Officers have not recounted votes in some wards where a request for recounting has been made despite Rule 66 of the panchayat election rules mandating recount. The Hon’ble Madras High Court has called for reports from the Returning Officers as to whether recounting was done and why it was not done. The High Court also orally expressed that it will direct departmental action against errant Returning Officers if it’s found that they did not follow the rules
