Madras HC adjourns the plea for registration of a criminal case for corruption charges against LA Minister S.P. Velumani to 23 January. Senior Counsel NR Elango who argued on behalf of DMK impressed upon the court that DVAC cannot examine witnesses in a Preliminary Enquiry & the DVAC’s stand that they have examined several witnesses in this connection is against DVAC manual. The only option before DVAC is to register a criminal case and conduct proper investigation he added. DVAC’s S.P. Ponni who conducted the PE reported to the court that PE has been completed and report has been sent to Director DVAC. The tone of arguments advanced by DVAC indicated that the PE against Velumani is closed. Madras HC directed Director of DVAC to submit all documents, statements, reports before HC on 23.01.2020 to decide next course of action.
