Setting aside an order of a single judge, the Madras high court has directed the authorities to consider the application of a woman seeking compassionate appointment since her father who was a PWD employee died during service.      division bench of justices T S Sivagnanam and S Ananthi observed that on closer scrutiny of the facts and considering the circumstances which are prevailing even as on date, they are inclined to grant appropriate relief to the appellant.

A full bench the full bench comprising Justice V Bharathidasan, Justice M Dhandapani and Justice PT Asha held, “indisputably, most of the students obtain their second degree through distance education and students are not permitted to undergo a second-degree programme formally in the same academic year.” the Madras High Court, while answering the reference made to it on whether two degrees (dual degrees) obtained simultaneously during the same academic year can be considered for employment, held that there is no obligation on the employer’s part to recognise such degrees unless a specific direction is issued by the UGC in this regard.
