Coming to the rescue of a woman whose plea for police protection to enter her village in Kallakurichi pending since 2009 has been closed as a mistake of fact without holding any investigation, the Madras High Court has directed the Kallakurchi police to conduct ‘reinvestigation’ and provide sufficient protection to the woman and her family.

The petitioner, a Keralite woman who fell in love with one Subramanian who belongs to Udayar community and a resident of Soolankurichi village, Kallakurichi district, had argued that after her husband Subramanian died due to heart attack on December 25, 2007, she and her daughter were not permitted by some vested interests in Soolankurichi village to even enter the village.
But despite the High Court directing the police to give protection on a plea moved in this regard in 2009, nothing has come forth with her being unable to visit the village.
The petitioner’s counsel Selvi Rajesh submitted that because of the turmoil undergone by the petitioner, she lost her mental balance and now she is admitted in Santhigiri Ashram in Bengaluru for treatment. She further submitted that the petitioner’s daughter Karuna (13) is being brought up by her aunt.
