[20/12, 21:23] Vijayaragan Mhc Advt: This common order arises out of Criminal Original Petition Nos.2302 and 4174 of 2021 filed by Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company Limited and The New India Assurance Company Limited seeking implementation of earlier directions issued by the High Court regarding registration and investigation of large-scale insurance-related complaints. Pursuant to the earlier order dated 12.09.2025, the Court had directed that 467 complaints be taken on file, FIRs be registered in all of them, and the cases be transferred to the Special Investigation Team headed by the Additional Director General of Police, Economic Offences Wing. A status report filed by the Director General of Police disclosed that out of the 467 complaints, FIRs had been registered in 432 cases, 22 complaints were under verification, and 13 related to other State jurisdictions. It was also reported that memoranda had been issued to all concerned police units to ensure compliance and transfer of cases to the SIT, and that 159 FIRs had already been transmitted to the SIT. The Court noted that reports called for from the Principal Sub Judge, Hosur and the Additional District Judge, Hosur pursuant to the earlier order had not yet been received and directed the Registry to follow up with the concerned courts. The petitioners filed a memo bringing to the notice of the Court an additional set of 308 complaints involving a further claim amount, apart from the earlier 467 complaints, and sought similar directions in respect of these complaints as well as correlation of MCOP numbers, claim amounts and crime numbers. Accepting the request, the Court directed that the same directions issued earlier for the 467 complaints would equally apply to the additional 308 complaints, that FIRs be registered in respect of them and transferred to the SIT, and that the police prepare a tabulated statement correlating each insurance claim with the corresponding FIR number to enable effective presentation before the courts dealing with the claims. The lists of complaints filed along with the memo were directed to form part of the order. The matter was posted for further hearing on 23.02.2026 with a direction to file an updated status report and to ensure receipt of reports from the subordinate courts.
