Today the WP filed by RS Bharathi on behalf of DMK seeking a direction to EC to take action against continuous advertisement by aiadmk party came up for hearing before Hon’ble CJ bench with a further direction to the State to halt all such advertisements
Mr P. Wilson submitted that the free and fair elections and purity in elections are basic feature of constitution. The 5th Respondent (EPS) is indulging in advertising in all TV channels, news papers and all websites commercial internet sites pampering and projecting him since two months. He submitted that on 7.10.2016 the EC has issued directions to all political parties from resisting and that it would attract freezing of symbol and that the DMK party gave representations in January and February 2021 and ECI has not taken any action.
Mr G Rajagopal appearing for EC said that the ECI has called for remarks from AIADMK and that they’re waiting for reply from AIADMK and sought for time for filing status report. AG appearing for state submitted that state has stopped the advertisements showcasing CM and achievements of Government from 18.2.2021 and sought for time to file report.
The Learned CJ bench recorded the submissions of AG and posted it on Tuesday 2.3.2021 for filing counter.
