Respected Sirs,
Sub: Not to prevent advocates to access their office during lockdown period – Reg.
Due to the outbreak of COVID – 19 pandemic, all over the world, the World Health Organisation (WHO) advised all the countries to take immediate steps to prevent from spreading over the disease to other person. Accordingly, the Government of India as well as the Government of Tamilnadu have taken several steps and even periodical lockdown to control over the spreading of disease.
The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India has also taken suo-moto action and issued several directions to all the courts to deal with the cases before the court by video conferencing. Subsequent to that, the Hon'ble High Court of Madras has also issued circular to its sub-ordinate court to conduct cases.
Now, again the Government of Tamilnadu has announced lockdown for selected districts from 19.06.2020 to 30.06.2020 and restricted the movement. The advocates are appearing in the courts and pleading on behalf of their clients, in order to protect their legal right. As the courts are functioning and hearing the cases through video conferencing, the advocates are compelled to attend the cases by opening their offices. Most of the advocates are having video conferencing facilities and case bundles at their office only.
Further, it is unavoidable to open the offices of the advocates on working days enable them to attend the cases through video conference and they will show their ID cards issued by the Bar Council of Tamilnadu and Puducherry. We assure that the advocates are ready to follow the other advisories issued by the Government of Tamilnadu i.e., wearing of Mask, using sanitizer, social distancing etc.
Therefore, the Bar Council of Tamilnadu and Puducherry appeal your goodself not to prevent the advocates to access their offices during lockdown period and do the needful.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
CHAIRMAN, BAR COUNCIL
