Trichy: Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant on Saturday inaugurated a 24-hour legal clinic with a library and e-library at the Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) in Trichy.
Advising young lawyers to adapt to the evolving legal landscape, Justice Surya Kant, who is also the executive chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), said they must embrace modern facilities like e-libraries to meet the growing expectations of the public. “Young lawyers need to navigate an information-rich world where legal precedents are set daily and regulatory frameworks change frequently. The public’s demand for swift and accurate advice has reached unprecedented levels,” he said.
He noted that the rapid expansion of legislation, rising complexity of jurisdictional matters, and the urgent need for real-time legal updates have made traditional research methods inadequate. “E-libraries ensure knowledge is available instantly, anywhere, anytime, while preserving the collaborative spirit of traditional libraries. In today’s fast-paced world, they are absolute necessities, not luxuries,” he said.
Justice Surya Kant also inaugurated legal clinics in Yercaud (Salem district) and Embalam (Puducherry) through video conference.
Supreme Court judges R Mahadevan, K V Viswanathan, and M M Sundresh delivered special addresses, while Madras high court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava gave the introductory address. MHC judges M Sundar and R Suresh Kumar, Trichy Principal District Judge M Christopher, and state legal services authority member secretaries S Balakrishnan (Tamil Nadu) and G T Ambika (Puducherry) were also present.”
