Chennai: Madras high court on Wednesday commenced the final hearing of the perso-nality rights suit moved by ac-tor celebrity chef Madham-patty Rangaraj, filed against his estranged live-in partner and film costume designer Joy Crizildaa.

Already the court has re-served its order on a separate suit moved by Madhampatty Thangavelu Hospitality (P) Ltd, alleging revenue loss due to social media posts made by Crizildaa tagging the compa-ny.

On Wednesday, when the plea moved by Rangaraj came up for hearing before Justice N Senthilkumar, senior advo-cate S Prabakaran, represen-ting Crizildaa, filed his re-sponse to the suit saying Rangaraj was attempting to project a serious issue of a criminal nature (harass-ment, cruelty, cheating) as a commercial dispute to escape criminal prosecution.

According to Crizildaa, her relationship with Ranga-raj began in July 2023, and they married as per Hindu ri-tuals on Dec 24, 2023, at Thiru-veedhi Amman Temple, Chennai.

She became pregnant three times, and she was for-ced to abort the first two preg-nancies. When she refused to abort the third, she was physi-cally abused by Rangaraj, who threatened to end their

matrimonial relationship, the counter said.

Subsequently, she learned that Rangaraj never divorced his first wife and he was lying to her. Therefore, on Aug 29, she filed a complaint with the Chennaipolice commissioner against Rangaraj.

Denying the allegations le-velled by Rangaraj, she con-tended that she has not com-mercially exploited Ranga-raj’s personality rights. Her statements are merely voi-cing against the injustice she and her unborn child have suffered, which is a funda-mental right protected under Article 19 of the Constitution, she said.

Earlier, senior advocate Srinath Sridevan, represen-ting Rangaraj, commenced his arguments contending that the allegations made by Crizildaa on social media da-maged his profession, as cus-tomers preferred his catering service not only because of its reputation and quality but al-so due to their liking of his personality.
