50% of the population is women . 50% representation of women in legislature is fundamental to political empowerment.

Women’s representation in Lok Sabha increased from 5% in first Lok Sabha to its highest ever in 17th Lok sabha ( 14.4%)

Took a slight nosedive to 13.6% as 74 women were elected in the present 18 th Lok Sabha

While it would have been nice to see 33% of the Lok Sabha seats which if enhanced by delimitation to 815 would have been 272 women in Lok Sabha .

I would still love to see 1/3 rd of the 543 Lok Sabha seats get occupied by women .. Will I ever get to see it in my life 😊

[17/04, 21:49] sekarreporter1: [17/04, 21:35] Mhc Advt Ramaswamy Meyyappan: Reply to Madam’s hopes on Women Reservation,

Madam,

We should dream bigger. With 33% reservation other women should still be able to contest in their present constituencies. Then with the present number of 14.4% women in the 17th Lok Sabha there should be a higher percentage than just 33%.

Further the requirement such reserved seats will have to change by rotation. Successful women candidates in their seats should retain those seats with good governance and by doing what their constituents require. Eventually the possibility of at least a 50% or even a number tending to 100% should be a possibility.

This was the intent with the reserved seats for SC and ST marked constituency also. Unfortunately both political parties and us as electorates are not sensitive and have let go.

Politicians that don’t support good women candidates and women empowerment should be shown the door.
Our electorate is too kind, we don’t punish people enough and don’t punish them big.
