A Division Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday (August 26, 2025) stayed the three-month simple imprisonment imposed by a single judge on Monday (August 25) on a Special Sub-Inspector of Police (SSI) for having forged the signature of an Inspector of Police in a charge-sheet filed before a judicial magistrate in a criminal case.
The Bench comprising Justices M.S. Ramesh and V. Lakshminarayanan granted the interim stay following an appeal filed by the SSI K. Sankar who was aggrieved over a direction issued by the single judge to secure the appellant forthwith and make him undergo the sentence at the Puzhal central prison near Chennai.
