ORDER
(Order of the Court was made by The Hon’ble Chief Justice)
The grievance of the petitioner is that the residents and farmers in downstream areas served by the Vattamalaikarai Odai Dam have been denied the minimum ten days of water in a year that they seek
from such dam.
2. According to the State, not enough water is collected at the relevant dam to provide water to the areas intended to be covered by the same. A status report has been filed indicating that three new projects have been undertaken which would be completed within the next 18 months. However, till such time that these projects are completed by June 30, 2023, the State and the respondents should
ensure that at least three days’ water is released to the relevant area every six months so that the hardship in the interregnum is alleviated to some extent.
3. The State must ensure that the projects undertaken are completed well before June 30, 2023 so that increased supply of water
is available in the relevant area thereafter.
4. W.P.No.15691 of 2020 is disposed of. W.M.P.No.19533 of
2020 is closed. There will be no order as to costs.
