It is rather unfortunate courts do not give respect to aspirations of the people.

Letters Parent

Instead of being the relief oriented institution, we contemplate only thr name change, it would be mocking at the poor and the needy!

Madras Highcourt

[8/1, 10:41] Sekarreporter 1: [8/1, 10:39] Madurai Srinivas Ragavan: Expected answer from KC j! Another Gospel Statement. Why shoud I justify the decision of the court? It is my personal opinion that change of name of the court is not going to help the litigants than dispensing justice by the judiciary. For webinars let not kcj bother much. We have bountiful of resources persons both from the bar and bench and no resource person is going to say no when they are approached for rendering a lecture in the interest of the members of the Bar.

[8/1, 10:56] Sekarreporter 1: [8/1, 10:52] Srinivasan Advt: The Madras High Court was so named during the British days when it’s jurisdiction extended over the entire madras presidency which wasn’t the city of madras alone. It’s name should have been changed soon after the states reorganisation Act as the HC of Tamil Nadu
The name change is long due and it’s nomenclature should bear connection with the state over which it presides and exercises jurisdiction. When Madras itself has become Chennai why should the HC be called the MHC and not the HC of TN and pondy ?

[8/1, 11:16] Sekarreporter 1: [8/1, 11:12] Senior Nl Raja Sir: It all depends on how one would like the Madras High Court to be viewed..if you view it as a mere State institution Justice Chandru would be right..but the HC is also a repository of learning in law, in pedagogy with certain level of appeal to academics too. Such institutions have a reputation built around such credentials. They do not change their names to the whims of the Government.
[8/1, 11:15] Senior Nl Raja Sir: This is why the renowned Madras University is still..Madeas University…IIT Madras is still IIT Madras..Madras literary society is till Madras Literary society..speaking for myself i would still look on Madras High Court as an institute where i come to learn and to practice that learning every day…i am glad its name is not changed..
[8/1, 11:20] Sekarreporter 1: [8/1, 11:18] N. Girirajan Mhc Advt: People are ignorant about the word Chennai which is a Telugu origin from the period of Vijayanakar Rulers era to Nayak Rulers who were off shoot of Vijayanagar Empire as Madras was coined as Chennai Pattinam.

Madras has its roots even before it was made as a Presidency during British era. There is nothing wrong in calling Madras Court by that name which is the second largest Court building the world.

Let us not change name for marriage of convenience.

Constitution provided that there will be a seperate High Court for Each state. After 7 th amendment there can be one common high court for two or more states. After the state reorganisation the high courts of Kerala Andhra and Karnataka have been established. Now HC if telengana has come up. Why should we still persist with Madras as a prefix ?
