P. Wilson Senior Advocate appeared for DMK and submitted that UOI in its recent statement filed before the court has stated that the total stranded Indians registered to come to TN is 56682 as on 3.7.2020 and total arrived as on 3.7.2020 is 22955 persons; that From 3.7.2020 to 11.7.2020 only 44 flights have been earmarked for TN up to 11.7.2020 which can carry only 7,788 persons for the said period . Whereas there is no plan after 11.7.2020 given by Union of India as to how remaining 25939 stranded Indians will be brought to TN.
He also submitted that the Indian community welfare fund which is available with various Indian embassy through out the foreign countries is not used for deserving Indians who don’t have means to return to India and to support them with food and accommodation until their return to india . He also submitted that the chartered flights destined to TN from all over the world was suddenly cancelled for last 3 days without any reasons and those flights should be permitted to takeoff to India.
He said DMK is getting lot of calls from person in distress who are suffering with out food and accommodation and who have to come to india due to medical emergencies death want of money etc and that the Central government should provide more flights to evacuate all of them who have desired to return.
The Hon’ble Court directed the ASG to file a complete schedule of flights by 20.07.2020 to bring back the rest of the stranded Indians and also to give reasons why some international airlines are being denied permission to operate evacuation flights and also on the Indian community welfare fund to be utilised for most deserving Indians.
