Inauguration of GOS–General Cariappa Higher Secondary School, new campus
in Saligramam

Chennai, 20 May 2026: GOS–General Cariappa Higher Secondary School, one of the earliest educational initiatives of the Guild of Service, will inaugurate its new and modern campus in Saligramam, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to quality education for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
As a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of this institution, the newly renovated building will be inaugurated by Air Marshal K.C. Cariappa (Retd.), PVSM, VM(G), son of Field Marshal
Cariappa, along with Mrs. Meena Cariappa, on 23 May at 10:30 a.m. at the school campus.

Founded in 1956 and inaugurated by former President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the school was established with a strong commitment to vocational education and social upliftment. Managed by the Guild of Service, it was initially created to serve children from the Seva Samajam Boys Home and has since grown into a respected co-educational higher secondary school affiliated with the State Board.
The school has played a vital role in educating first-generation learners and students from below-poverty-line families. It is also recognised for nurturing meritorious students who have performed strongly in the State Higher Secondary examinations despite significant socioeconomic challenges. GOS–General Cariappa Higher Secondary School is known for its emphasis on vocational training, holistic student development, and inclusive, value-based education.

Spread across 45,350 square feet, the new campus has been designed to provide students with contemporary learning spaces and essential support facilities, including:

• Modern sports facilities including basketball, volleyball, throwball, kabaddi and khokho courts • School Library

Beyond academics, the school offers a broad range of co-curricular and student development programmes, including NCC, NSS, literary and eco clubs, yoga, sports activities, and AIenabled computer learning initiatives aimed at supporting students’ holistic development.
