[R3 and R4 are suo motu impleaded vide order dated 21.04.2026 in W.P.(MD)No.11386 of 2026] Prayer: Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying this Court to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to get report from the experts committee constituted for this purpose and take effective steps to implement the same for the use of Tamil Spiritual Manthras and Tamil hymns along with Sanskrit in Yaga saalai, Karuvarai and Gopura Vimaanam equally in line with the similar previous orders of this Court in all Temple kudamullukkus including Madurai Sri Meenatchi Amman Temple Kudamulukku to be held on 17th day of September 2026 on the basis representation dated 28.01.2026 and help to glorify of devotional Tamil devotees and pass such further or other orders.

ORDER
Considering the nature of the averments made, the Joint Commissioner,
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Madurai, and the Joint
Commissioner / Executive Officer of Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Madurai, are suo motu impleaded as respondents 3 and 4 in the writ petition.
2. Mr.M.Sarangan, learned Additional Government Pleader, takes notice onbehalf of the respondents 1 to 3, and Mr.J.Murali, learned Standing Counsel, takes notice on behalf of the fourth respondent.
3. This writ petition is filed praying for the conduct of the rituals with Tamil mantharas and hymns, along with Sanskrit, at the Yaga Salai and other places during the Kudamuzhukku planned for the Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Madurai, scheduled for September 2026.
4. It is submitted by the learned counsel for the petitioner that a committee has already been constituted. Directions have also already been issued by the Hon’ble Division Bench of this Court in D.Ponnusamy Vs. The Commissioner, H.R. & C.E. & others [W.P.(MD)No.19115 of 2020] and other decisions.
5. The learned Additional Government Pleader taking notice would submit that the date is yet to be finalised and that they will place on record the steps taken with reference to the conduct of the poojas and rituals in Tamil.
6. More significantly, the legend goes that the ‘Pottramaraikulam’, situated within the precincts of this Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman temple, was the ‘Sanga Palagai’, that is, the Seat of the Tamil Sangam for staging the epics and poems in
Tamil.
7. In view thereof, let the steps taken by the respondents towards the prayermade for the use of Tamil hymns be placed before this Court by way of a status report. Registry is directed to carry out the impleadment of the respondents 4 and 5 in the writ petition.
8. List the matter on 02.06.2026 for filing the status report.
