A native of Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, Mr. P. Sanjai Gandhi finished his secondary school education in the Government High School, Ponappur village, Thanjavur district. He finished his higher secondary school education in Government School, Melaulur. Thanjavur district. He completed one year of the Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degree from 1992-1993. Following this, from 1993-1998, Mr. Gandhi pursued law at Dr. Ambedkar Law College. During his time there, he won many Tamil debates and essay writing competitions. He also founded the Manavar Tamil Sangam which conducted many Tamil programs and made Tamil culture flourish in the student community, for more than 15 years. After enrolling as a practicing lawyer in 2000, Mr. Gandhi joined the office of Senior Advocate R. Krishnamurthi and Senior Advocate R. Muthukumarsamy.
Mr. Gandhi has dedicated his legal career to the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR); even as he served as the Additional Government Pleader (AGP) in the Madras High Court from 2011 to January 2018. During his service as the AGP, he appeared before the court for various writ petitions. He has nearly 20 years of practice in the Madras High Court. He is the founder and President of the IPR Attorney Association, founded in 2011. He has conducted many IPR programs for the benefit of the legal fraternity. He has successfully procured Geographical Indication (GI) status for 20 unique products. He has also authored 2 books on IP. He was the winner in a competition conducted by the Govt. of India for IPR attorneys and won the National IP Award. In 2007, he represented India in an IPR training course conducted by the Japan Patent Office for Asian lawyers. He was appointed as the Nodal Officer for GI products registration in Tamil Nadu in 2019. He delivered an address at a global investors meet to global business leaders, for the purpose of promoting research and development in Tamil Nadu.
