[19/11, 13:23] Sekarreporter: Sr. Advocate S. Nagamuthu appeared for the student who was denied admission for MBBS course due to non-payment of fee on time. A learned single of the Madras HC allowed the case of the student directing her to make the payment to join the course after finding that the last date was a bank holiday and the parents were poor and uneducated and unaware of the banking transactions and could not make the payment on time. The judge also found the financial difficulties faced by the parents in mobilising the fee amount and the mother borrowing jewels and pledging it for her daughter’s education.

However, the next day a Division Bench of the Madras HC reversed the order of the learned single judge.

On appeal by the student the Supreme Court issued notice to the respondent Selection Committee and adjourned it by a week for hearing after the counsel requested a short notice in view of the urgency in the matter.
