I was wondering why I was called. I was introduced to them and came to know they are owners of vessel and it’s under arrest upon MHC Order. Case papers were given to study for lifting arrest. The next day I met my well wisher and told him I know nothing about Admiralty cases but he insisted I should defend the owners of vessel and I am capable of handling it and advised me to read some books. It was days with no internet. I tracked a book from Judges Library and read it in random to understand Admiralty jurisdiction and called my well wisher informing I will file my Vakalath and application to lift arrest. It’s my maiden appearance in Admiralty jurisdiction case. The regular Advocates in this branch were shocked and stunned to know am appearing for Vessel Owners. It was listed at 2.15 pm and I argued the case in length and the main attack was that when the vessel is under arrest on the order of MHC owners are not liable to pay about 175,000 USD + interest as Madras Port Trust dues and after hearing all the Counsels Justice Govardhan reserved the Order and pronounced it later on in favour of me by lifting the arrest of the vessel and I advised the owners to tug the vessel at the earliest to Sri Lanka or Singapore for repairs and they did it. My entry to the Bar days the long time Senior Standing Counsel Late R,G. Rajan congratulated me in the corridor saying that I am the 1st Advocate to have saved a vessel or else it would been broken into iron scrap.

[4/11, 21:49] Rubt Three: When I work I prefer to be deaf. I usually work in night and study what’s it all about the case on both the sides. Drafting is very important and usage of words also. I keep drafting until I get the way I wanted to present it before the Court for arguments. What you argue must find place in your drafting. Maharajan former Addl PP and SGP (HR&CE) knows about my way and he has already said about that in this page. Presentation of the case before the Court is most important thing. Try to give new interpretation of law if it suits your case.
