Sitting of the Vacation Courts will be from 10.30 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. in the
Madras High Court (both Principal Seat and Madurai Bench).
The method of hearing of cases being followed now in the Madras High Court (both Principal Seat and Madurai Bench) will be applicable for the Summer Vacation Sitting 2026.
The cases with stay and urgent hearing alone shall be filed before the Vacation Court Officers, on the following appointed date and time. No cases shall be entertained beyond the stipulated time on the appointed day.
The cases with stay and urgent hearing alone should be presented along with the papers to the Vacation Officers from 10.30 a.m. to 01.30 p.m. on the respective filing dates in the Madras High Court (both Principal Seat and Madurai Bench) by following the present system of filing of case papers, copy applications, returning/representing the case papers and receiving the order copies.
The Petitions which are filed online between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. on filing days alone will be entertained.
Subsequent to the appointed date of filing, in case of any extreme urgency, mentioning shall be made before the concerned Vacation Bench on the date of sitting in the Court.
The cases filed with interim applications for stay / injunction / direction on urgency will be numbered (if there is no defects found or defects rectified) and the interim applications will be listed for hearing.
Other than the Court sitting days (during Vacation Period), permission of the Hon’ble the Chief Justice shall be obtained through the Registry. The Special Sitting, if necessary, will be assigned only by the Hon’ble the Chief Justice.
No application should be presented at the residence of the Hon’ble Vacation Judges under any circumstances and no lunch motion will be entertained during the
Summer Vacation 2026.

For the bail petitions, Lower Court bail order should be enclosed along with the petitions.
‘Motion Slip’ should be presented before the Vacation Officers stating the urgency of the matter and also the advocates shall mention the date when the cause of action arose and when the petition/suit/appeal etc., was filed.
The procedures followed by the Registry during Vacation Sitting in respect of ‘physical filing’ is applicable to ‘online filing’.
The Registry of the Madras High Court (both the Principal Seat and Madurai
Bench) will work from 10.00 a.m. to 4.45 p.m., on all working days during Summer Vacation 2026, except the Court sitting days, on which days, the Registry will function from 10.00 a.m. to 5.45 p.m., or till the rising of the Court, whichever is
