HC orders removal of encroachments in Sivaganga waterbody

Madurai: The Madras high court has directed authorities to remove encroachments from a waterbody in Kandadevi village, Sivaganga district.
The order came while hearing a 2021 petition by S K Venkattassalapandian, who sought action against illegal encroachments in the waterbody.

A division bench of Justices G R Swaminathan and B Pugalendhi noted that the petition had been pending since August 2021. When the case was taken up for final disposal, the government advocate submitted a copy of a September 10, 2025, order by the tahsildar regarding the removal of encroachments.
The court criticized the tahsildar for inaction and questioned the sudden intervention only after the petition was nearing disposal. It directed that all encroachments in the waterbody be cleared within four weeks and subsequently disposed of the petition.”
