The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and gaiety at the Madurai Bench of the Madras high Court on Friday. A large number of people gathered on the High Court premises to witness the celebrations.p
The event began with the High Court judges offering floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the court building. Administrative Judge of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court Justice S.M. Subramaniam garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and hoisted the national flag. The national anthem was played by the police band.
