Court flays failure to verify if notices had been served on respondents Justice S.M. Subramaniam of the Madras High Court has passed a judicial order calling for an explanation from its Registry for not having taken steps to verify whether court notices had been served on the respondents, even in cases that were pending for over a decade, and to get the cases listed for completion of the process. It was during the hearing of an Appeal Suit pending since 2007, the judge found the court to have ordered notices in the case on April 11, 2007.

The Madras High Court has clarified that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) can make changes to the names of students and their parents in the Class X and XII mark statements after obtaining affidavits of indemnity against the use of new certificates for impersonation to escape from any civil or criminal activity. First Division Bench of Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Justice Subramonium Prasad provided the clarification while disposing of a writ appeal preferred by the CBSE against a single judge’s order to change the name of a student’s father as Shaik Fazul Rahiman instead of Fazal Rehmaan in his Class X mark statement

Judgement reserved in case of minor girl sexual assault in Chennai’s Ayanavaram: Special Public Prosecutor N. Ramesh said, “The prosecution side examined 36 witnesses and the defence side cross examined them. Over 120 documents were marked on prosecution side. At the end of two-week long arguments, the court reserved its order on Friday evening and has adjourned for the pronouncement of a judgement in the case.”
