The Madras High Court, on Tuesday (August 26, 2025), expressed concern over the portal for admissions under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act of 2005 not having been opened in Tamil Nadu despite the lapse of nearly three months since the commencement of the academic year 2025-26.
A Division Bench of Justices G.R. Swaminathan and V. Lakshminarayanan wondered why the children, entitled for admissions in neighbourhood schools under the RTE Act, should be deprived of their education because of the tussle between the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government over disbursal of funds.
