-Vs-
Thiru.Shunthongam Jatak Chiru, I.A.S.,
Additional Chief Secretary,
Home (Transport-II) Department,
Fort St. George,
Chennai – 600 009. …Respondent
Prayer: Contempt Petition filed under Section 11 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, to punish the respondent for willful disobedience of the order passed by this Court in W.P.No.4160 of 2022 dated 17.03.2025 and pass such further orders.
For Petitioner : Mr.S.Mani
For Respondent : Mr.A.N.Purusotham,
Special Government Pleader
O R D E R This contempt petition is filed to punish the respondent for having
willfully disobeyed the order passed by this Court on 17.03.2025, made in W.P.No.4160 of 2022.
2. The order was passed by this Court in W.P.No.4160 of 2022 as early as on 17.03.2025. When the matter was taken up for hearing on 04.11.2025, the learned Special Government Pleader appearing for the respondent sought time to comply with the order. Accordingly, time was granted and the matter was directed to be listed today for reporting compliance.
3. Today, i.e., on 18.11.2025, when the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned Special Government Pleader submitted that the respondent proposed to file a writ appeal. However, when a specific question was posed as to whether the writ appeal had actually been filed, the learned Special Government Pleader, submitted that it was not yet filed. This Court is constrained to note with considerable displeasure the casual and indifferent manner in which the respondent has chosen to deal with the contempt proceedings, betraying scant regard and respect for the orders of this Court. Under the circumstances, this Court is compelled to issue warrant to the respondent, returnable by 05.12.2025. However, if the order is complied with, the respondent can file petition to dispense with his appearance.
4. Post the matter on 05.12.2025.
