The DB after hearing the arguments directed central government to comply with directions dated 12.6.2020 and inform the Court as to when all the stranded Indians who wanted to return to TN will be evacuated and what is the plan of providing more vande bharat mission flights to India and posted the case to 23.6.2020. The central Govt was also directed to specifically comply with directions 7(II and III) dated 12.6.2020.
[6/19, 11:48] Sekarreporter 1: Mr P Wilson, Sr. Adv appearing for the Petitioner DMK party today submitted before Division Bench comprising of Hon’ble Mr Justice R Subbiah and Hon’ble Mr Justice Krishnan Ramasamy that many Tamils were stranded abroad for want of consent from State Govt for landing of ‘Vande Bharat Mission flights’ operated by Central Government. These flights are cheaper and affordable to the stranded Indians to come back to TN.
He further submitted that out of three directions issued by this Court by order dated 12.6.2020 relating to (a) number of applicants, who have registered in various embassies where they are stranded and want to return to india(b) The number of various airlines operated so far to TN during covid 19 and details of plans of the Union of India to provide more such flights in near future for such stranded people(c) The details of the relief in the form of any financial help ticket cost, food, stay etc to be provided to such stranded people in various foreign countries because of the Covid 19 lock down and stoppage of flight operations is not states in the status report , two directions alone were complied by Central Government in their status report filed in this case.
The status report of Central Govt states that total 40,433 repatriation requests to evacuate to TN was received from various countries to the respective embassies and about 14,065 have been rescued and only about 26,368 stranded passengers have to be rescued to TN.
Mr Wilson submitted that the central government has not complied with the two more directions passed by the DB on 12.6.2020.
He further submitted that the status report of state government deals about chartered flights and not ‘vande bharat Mission flights’ operated by Central government which is at an affordable costs .
Mr SR Rajagopal said State has no objection to operate any number of Vande Bharat flights.
