Association of Tamil Nadu Medical Device Industry – ATMED & IMDI Join Forces for the First-Ever Medical Devices Industry Conference
Chennai, August 31, 2025 – The medical devices industry witnessed a historic milestone on August 29th and 30th with the 1st ever medical conference held at Anna University’s Vivekananda Auditorium, Chennai. This pioneering event was jointly organized by ATMED – Association of Tamil Nadu Medical Device Industry and IMDI – Indian Medical Devices Industry, marking the beginning of a new era of collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the sector.
The conference commenced with an inaugural lamp lighting ceremony led by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Ezhilan, M.D., MLA, Member State Planning Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Ezhilan delivered an inspiring and pragmatic address, spotlighting the transformative potential of MedTech in India and candidly articulating the pressing challenges faced by manufacturers in establishing their units.
Gracing the dais alongside Dr. Ezhilan were distinguished guests who brought their expertise and encouragement to the gathering:
● Dr. K.M. Srinivasan, Deputy Drugs Controller (India), CDSCO-South Zone, who reaffirmed his unwavering support for Tamil Nadu’s MedTech manufacturers.
● Dr. Meenakshi Ganesan, Scientist-G & Deputy Director General (Southern Region), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), who educated delegates about vital standards impacting medical devices and extended a cordial invitation to a BIS workshop scheduled for August 30th.
● Dr. M. Sasikala – Professor, Head, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering; Coordinator, NHHID; CEO, CCTME, Anna University, who expressed heartfelt thanks to Association of Tamil Nadu Medical Device Industry for fostering a meaningful partnership with Anna University.
● Mr. S. Ilangovan – Principal Director & Head, CIPET: IPT – Chennai
● Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum

Each speaker enlightened the audience with vibrant, insightful addresses, enriching discussions on regulatory frameworks, industry-academic partnerships, and technical advancements in medical devices.
Day two of the conference featured specialized workshops designed to empower and educate. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hosted a forenoon workshop at their Tharamani office, bringing in eminent speakers from Delhi to deliberate on standards and compliance. In the afternoon, the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) conducted a workshop, furthering the technical knowledge of attendees.
This initiative, led by Association of Tamil Nadu Medical Device Industry in partnership with IMDI and Anna University, was lauded by medical sector professionals for its remarkable success in uniting industry leaders, academicians, regulatory agencies, and government organizations under a single umbrella. The conference fostered dialogue, encouraged innovation, and set a benchmark for future collaborations in India’s thriving MedTech landscape.
