Madurai: Madras high court has directed the authorities to act as per a GO, on a plea seeking not to remove or relocate the statue of prominent Tamil poet, scholar, and writer Kavimani Desiyavinayagam Pillai situated in Tallakulam in Madurai city. The court also closed the public interest litigation filed by R Kanagavel Pandian.
The petitioned stated that students, social activists, and public offer tributes to Pillai’s statue during his birth anniversary every year.
In this backdrop, authorities planned to remove the statue from Tallakulam for road expansion work. Hence, the petitioner moved court.
