- Next story public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Centre and the State government to constitute a permanent body for taking serious and practical steps to safeguard the flora, fauna and other natural resources in the Eastern and Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu. The case filed by DMK spokesperson K.S. According to the petitioner, the Western Ghats run to around 1.6 lakh sq km, from Kanniyakumari to Gujarat, spanning six different States in the country. The ghats were spread over 28,200 sq km in Tamil Nadu, 43,300 sq km in Karnataka, 58,400 sq km in Maharashtra, 1,075 sq km in Goa and 28,100 sq km in Kerala.

Devanathan Yadav, managing director of Mylapore Hindu Permanent Fund Nidhi Limited (MHPFNL) – facing a ₹600-crore default case involving 5,000 depositors – to undergo medical treatment at a private hospital for 10 weeks. A Division Bench of Justices G.R. Swaminathan and V. Lakshminarayanan ordered that the prisoner should name three private hospitals where he would prefer to be treated and that the government authorities concerned could choose one of them. It was made clear that he should be shifted to the hospital within a week, as he had to undergo two surgeries: one on his knee and another on the spine.
