Government Holds High-Level Review Meeting to Address Issues at SIPCOT Medical Devices Park, Oragadam
Chennai, 2 July 2026: Following repeated representations by the Association of Tamil Nadu Medical Devices Industry (ATMED) regarding the challenges faced by industries operating at the SIPCOT Medical Devices Park, Oragadam, a high-level stakeholders’ meeting was convened today at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. S. Vijayakumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Mr. S. A. Raman, IAS, Managing Director, SIPCOT, senior officials from SIPCOT, the Revenue Department, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), Guidance Tamil Nadu, and other concerned departments.
More than 30 allottee companies from the SIPCOT Medical Devices Park actively participated in the meeting and presented the operational and infrastructure challenges affecting the MedTech ecosystem. The industry representatives appreciated the opportunity provided by the Government to engage in a constructive dialogue.
During the meeting, Mr. Jayasing Morris, Coordinator & General Secretary, ATVIED, formally handed over a detailed representation to the Additional Chief Secretary outlining the key issues faced by the Medical Devices Park and requesting priority intervention from the Government.
The Government officials listened to every concern with seriousness. Dr. S. Vijayakumar, IAS, and Mr. S. A. Raman, IAS, assured the stakeholders that the issues would be examined on priority and that appropriate action would be taken at the earliest.
ATMED highlighted the following priority issues:
• Immediate waiver of the Block Development Officer (BDO) fees.
• Alignment of TNEB electricity tariffs with the applicable Government Orders and ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the Medical Devices Park.
• Improvement in the quality and distribution of STP treated water.
• Grant of the full 100% stamp duty waiver as per the applicable Government policy.
• Development of the common infrastructure and shared facility centres originally envisaged for the Medical Devices Park.
ATMED informed the Government that additional company-specific issues would be submitted separately through the Association and individual member companies for further consideration.
The Association expressed its sincere appreciation to the Government of Tamil Nadu, SIPCOT, and all participating departments for their positive response and commitment to strengthening Tamil Nadu’s MedTech manufacturing ecosystem. ATMED looks forward to the early implementation of the required policy decisions and administrative measures for the benefit of the Medical Devices industry in the State.
