The Income Tax Department by letter dt. 4.8.2025 intimated J.Deepa that there is a Tax Demand of Rs. 13,69,07,340/- pertaining to Late J.Jayalaithaa. J.Deepa claiming to be Legal heir filed writ petition and today the above matter came up for hearing before Hon`ble Mr Justice C.Saravanan and the counsel for J.Deepa insisted for stay of the demand and A.P.Srinivas, Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Deprtmemnt objected for the same and said that already counters are filed in earlier proceedings and the arrears are intimated and this writ petition isª not maintainable as the impugned proceedings is an intimation only and recovery is against the properties of the deceased and the demand has to be paid, otherwise, the department will proceed against the properties and further said that J.Deepak requested for payment in instalments and the department has permitted J.Deepak to pay 50% of the arrears in 6 equal monthly instalments. The case is adjourned by 2 weeks for filing counter.
