Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the first respondent herein to consider and dispose of the petitioner’s representation dated 16.03.2026 and to recommend Class A prisoner status to the petitioner’s husband, Thiru. Kamalakannan (PID No.748390), and pending such consideration of the said representation to direct the second respondent to treat the petitioner’s husband as a Class A prisoner tentatively and to provide him with all Class A prisoner privileges and facilities as per the Tamil Nadu Prison Rules, 2024, within such time as may be stipulated by the Court.

Seeking a direction to the first respondent to consider and dispose of the petitioner’s representation dated 16.03.2026 and to recommend Class A prisoner status to the petitioner’s husband, Thiru. Kamalakannan (PID No.748390), and pending such consideration of the said
representation, to direct the second respondent to treat the petitioner’s husband as a Class A prisoner tentatively and to provide him with all Class A prisoner privileges and facilities as per the Tamil Nadu Prison Rules, 2024, the present writ petition is filed.
2. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and Mr.S.Raja Kumar, learned Additional Public Prosecutor, who accepts notice on behalf of the respondents.
3. Learned counsel for the petitioner drew our attention to the fact that the petitioner’s husband is a former Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
4. Learned Additional Public Prosecutor submits that the representation of the petitioner dated 16.03.2026 has been received and the same is pending before the District Collector for appropriate direction. He further submits that on receiving appropriate direction from the District Collector, the petitioner’s representation would be duly considered.
5. Since the petitioner’s representation is pending before the first respondent/District Collector for appropriate direction, the first respondent is directed to consider the petitioner’s representation dated 16.03.2026 and dispose of the same within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. On receipt of the direction from the first respondent/District Collector, the second respondent is directed to act appropriately.
6.With the above direction, this writ petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
