The Tamil Nadu government on Monday accused the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) of misrepresenting and concealing vital facts and deliberately attempting to suppress the sequence of events in a writ petition filed by it in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the State police to register First Information Reports (FIRs) on the basis of information shared by it regarding river sand mining offences.

In a status report filed before Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan, the State said, the writ petition filed under Article 226 (writ jurisdiction of High Courts) of the Constitution was not maintainable at all and that the ED ought to have approached only the Supreme Court under Article 131 which provides for resolving disputes between the Centre and one or more States.
